Continuing professional education quality review

CPE standards

Assessment that is fair, proportionate, and defensible

Assessment should serve the program’s learning outcomes and produce evidence that can be interpreted consistently.

Key considerations

The framework at a glance

01

Valid

The method addresses the knowledge, skill, judgment, or application described by the outcome.

02

Reliable

Instructions, criteria, marking, moderation, and records support consistent decisions.

03

Secure

Identity, integrity, access, attempts, results, and certification controls reflect the level of risk.

Quality principles in practice

01

Assessment design

Questions, tasks, demonstrations, reflections, or workplace evidence should match the outcome and professional context. Difficulty and effort should be proportionate.

02

Administration and fairness

Learners need clear instructions, criteria, timing, support, accessibility arrangements, feedback routes, reassessment rules, and a fair way to question an outcome.

03

Integrity and records

Providers should control assessor competence, learner identity where relevant, academic integrity, result decisions, changes, moderation, retention, and certificate release.

Not every CPE activity needs formal assessment. Where achievement or competence is claimed, however, the evidence must justify that claim.
